Maintaining Perspective: The Importance of Aligning Personal Goals with Professional Aspirations

Thursday, September 20, 2018, 1:00–2:00 PM EST

Panelists will discuss the importance of each individual attorney’s perspective in managing her career. The most successful attorneys are ones who find meaning in their work and who find a path that aligns with their personal values.  This might mean non-traditional or solo practice, an alternative work arrangement, or even simply finding the right group of colleagues. Does your work environment align with your values and provide you with the supportive environment needed for your career development? Does your firm’s management philosophy align with both your personal and professional values? How can community involvement and outside interests assist your practice? These are the types of questions that will be addressed in this Roundtable.

The Roundtable will be moderated by Shayna M. Steinfeld, President and CEO of Steinfeld & Steinfeld, PC. Panelists include:

  • Alison Greenberg, Owner, Law Offices of Alison Greenberg, LLC
  • Jodi L. Rosenberg, Founder of Law Office of Jodi L. Rosenberg, LLC
  • Christina Plum, Staff Attorney, Wisconsin Court of Appeals and adjunct professor at Univ. of Wisconsin Law School

This Roundtable will discuss the FDA's Final Guidance documents on manufacturer communications published in June 2018, as well as the FDA's previous guidances, First Amendment Memorandum, and rules on the "intended use" definition in the Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act (FDCA), which is the basis for determining whether a product is regulated by the FDA. As sales and marketing witnesses are thrown to the forefront of products liability litigation, their communications with physicians often become the subject of depositions and trial testimony. Michael C. Zogby and Chanda Miller of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP will address First Amendment case law, FDA rulemaking, and legislative activities. They will also explore acceptable communications, industry comments, FDA rules, risk assessment, First Amendment implications, and how to prepare witnesses for deposition and trial.
